Hair dresser - Sizzix

Hello there and great Thursday! And happy Thanksgiving to all American readers! We don't celebrate it here in Finland, but it's always great to think about thinks we're grateful and thankful for.

This page is kind of a pair to this earlier one (link) which I made of my older daughter. This time the topic is my younger daughter and what she wants to be when she grows up. She's actually the whole thing planned - she takes over the business of a hairdresser they visit on regular basis. The lady in question also knows about this plan and is eagerly waiting for her retirement, lol.

As you can see from the title and the video, I made the page for Sizzix using quite a few dies along the make. You can see a list of the dies used under the next photo. I used similar colors and the background paper from the same 7 Dots Studio collection in both of the pages, this and the one about my other daughter, so they match and could be showed side by side.

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a peaceful, great day!

Super news and kursseja keväälle! - Ikaalinen

Hi there! First a couple of lines in English and then more in Finnish. It's time to start reserving time from my calendar to workshops during the spring. And boy I have big news. Huge! Just look the photo underneath! Hello Art Venture (link) and hello US! It's my very first time over there. And it also seems that I'm coming to Creativation to demo and keep a couple of workshops there, too. I'm thrilled, excited and so scared! I'm stepping in for Anna as she's unable to travel. So the pressure is on!

Sitten vaihdetaan suomeen!

Two mini canvases - Prima Marketing

Hi there and great Tuesday! There's a series of post about the Finnabair mediums going on in the Prima blog - have you noticed? Yesterday's post was all about two pastes, Modeling Paste and Light Paste. Here's a link to that post (link) so you can have a look yourself.

I did two mini canvases for the post. My idea behind these two was to show what more you can do with the paste than just use it as it is and color on top. I made even a shot little video on my process with these two canvases which you can see a bit further down.

My favorite way to use Modeling Paste is just as it is – white. But you can also dye it or use it as a base to create a texture paste of your own. I really love Modeling Paste as it’s so thick and heavy body so it’s perfect for stenciling. The thick paste really makes a sharp pattern.

If you aren’t afraid to get your fingers dirty, the Modeling Paste also makes a prefect snow medium on its own. Just apply with a finger to layers of varying heights to get a natural feel. If you want something extra, add some glitter on top for the sparkling snowbanks!

I hope you liked the video and got inspiration from the few different ideas I was throwing there. And thank you for stopping by today! Have a great day!

Move ever Forward - Wow Embossing Powders

Moikka and good Monday! The weather outside almost matches these cards - it's raining and the wet asphalt is sucking all the light so it's almost pitch black! Almost, like these cards. I've done them quite some time ago, to be honest, but forgot to share them totally. They were made as a guest project for Wow Embossing Powders.

As you can see from the picture above, the cards have just a few elements. There's some hearts made with a mould, some twine and also a metal embellishment. The three of them make up a series with the title running cross all three - move ever forward.

The biggest thing, at least I think so, is the background with a lot of different colors and texture. First it looks totally black, but there's golden, pink, green and blue hues in there. And a slightly visible pattern with the cogs. It's done with triple embossing - stamping straight to the melted powder.

As these cards were done ages ago, they all have a new home already. But if you'd like a swap with me, just send me an email and let's see what I can do!

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a great start to the new week!

Artful Adventures in Mixed Media

Hi there! Holidays are coming and I have a gift tip for you! Like I wrote in one previous post, "in my honest opinion, everyone should read this book. It's thrilling and exciting!" So if you are looking for a gift idea for either to an artsy friend or to yourself and still don't have read the book, I highly recommended it! It gave me a lot of inspiration.

The "Artful Adventures in Mixed Media" is a book by mixed media artist Nathalie Kalbach. It demonstrates how you can turn your observations and experiences into beautiful pieces of art. The book offers tips on how to gather inspiration but also guides with the colors, composition and art basics. The book has eight chapters and they are like building blocks - you start with the base and go for the height. Everyone can be creative and many things can spark that inspiration.

The writer, Nathalie Kalbach is a self-taught artist now living in New Jersey. She has an unique way of using colors and creates wonderful artworks that represent her surroundings and travels. I especially love her city canvases! You can find her site here (link) where she also has a little shop where you can get the book (link) but also her designs as stencils or stamps (link)

I received a copy in the summer and got so much inspiration out of it! Like I said in my first Instagram post about the book (link) - waiting for the part 2! It was a perfect timing to read it as we were planning and waiting for a summer trip and the book gave me a lot to think about. I really enjoyed reading the book as it has the spark that Nat has in her, joy and excitement just flowed from its pages. We even used the book as the source of one of the Inspired By's with Marsha (link)

Like the title, "Artful Adventures in Mixed Media", suggests, the book is about adventures, about gathering inspiration on the go. It can be a walk around the block or an adventure in the internet but there's also ideas about documenting and gathering inspiration during a holiday or travel. As I'm always intrigued by inspiration, it was interesting read how Nat uses her travels as the source and how she documents those to be used later.

Like I have said, the book is a great source for inspiration but also a good introduction to art on the go or to mixed media to whom the subject is new. There's seven chapters by Nat herself and the last, the eight one with the title of "Absorbing art made by friends" which shows inspiration from other artists. These include for example Birgit Koopsen, Seth Apter and Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. If you wish to read more about the book, you can do it here (link).

Thank you for your visit today and have a great start to the new week! If you have already read the book, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Cute cards - Tape Garden

Oh my gosh how I love the cute stamps by Lawn Fawn! Just look at those! Those cute characters are the center of attention in these cards I did for Tape Garden.

The cards are really simple - just some matching strips of washi tapes, some watercolor splashes and the stamped little cuties colored with watercolors. There's also a couple of stickers and half pearls. Easy peasy! These would make lovely cards for the kids, too.

Have a sweet Saturday! Thanks for the visit!
